Raj Kumar Verka, who was recently given Cabinet rank, called on disgruntled MLA Navjot Singh Sidhu at his residence here on Saturday.

Verka, vice-chariman of National Commission for Scheduled Castes, is the first senior Congress leader who went to meet Sidhu after the latter resigned from the Cabinet following his differences with Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh.

Talking to The Tribune, Verka said it was a courtesy meeting which lasted for nearly half-an-hour. He said subjects of common interest like development of the holy city and growth of the Congress party were discussed.
To a question, Verka said: “Sidhu did not show any resentment against any of the Congress leader.”

The Tribune, now published from Chandigarh, started publication on February 2, 1881, in Lahore (now in Pakistan). It was started by Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia, a public-spirited philanthropist, and is run by a trust comprising five eminent persons as trustees.
